The Rich Family: San Antonio Trip

This week me and my sister, Jennifer, took Daniel on a little trip to San Antonio. We stayed with my good friend Kris from our New Jersey days - thanks Kris! On the first day down, we arrived late afternoon and let Daniel get in a good nap. Then we went downtown to the Riverwalk area. We were hoping to take Daniel on a Riverwalk boat cruise. Unfortunately, while we were getting out of the car it started to rain. We hurried to the Alamo and got pictures in front of it before the bottom dropped out. It was pouring! We went to the nearby Pat O'Brien's to grab some dinner (and a hurricane) and wait out the rain. But the rain won. However, we had a great meal and Daniel enjoyed some cherries and Birthday cake from the table next to us. After the restaurant, we tried to walk around the Riverwalk, but it was still sprinkling and just too wet. The boats weren't running. :(

On Day Two we went to Sea World. The first thing we did was the Shamu Killer Whale show. It was so neat to watch Daniel watching the show. There was also a baby whale that was present during the show with it's mom. It was really neat to see the baby whale, just born earlier this year. They even showed a video of the baby being born and going straight to the surface for air. Next we went to see the Walrus & Sea Lion Show and then went back to the holding tank to feed the sea lions. Daniel didn't hesitate to pick up the little fish and drop them over the edge to the waiting sea lions! The next thing was the penguin exhibit. This was a really neat exhibit with a moving platform that went in front of the tank. You could also stand behind the moving sidewalk to watch for longer. Most of the penguins were just standing around or floating languidly, but there was one penguin who was swimming quickly, shaking, splashing and jumping out of the water. I think it had ADHD. Daniel loved it and laughed and laughed at it. I got some cute video of the penguin with Daniel laughing in the background. After that, we had some lunch and let Daniel play on the playground for a while. Then we had the best ice cream in a super aweseom Shamu bowl! Next we went to see and feed the dolphins. The feeding tank area was really neat. You lay on your stomach across the edge of the tank to get close to the dolphins and they are RIGHT THERE! When we got ready to feed them Daniel didn't want to. He said "Mama do it." So I touched the yucky fish and fed them to the dolphins. Daniel liked watching, but I think he was a little afraid to feed them since they were so close! Lastly we went to the Coral Reef & Shark exhibit. It was neat but a little hard to get pictures since it was dark-ish inside.

On Day Three we went to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. It was really neat to go to another Six Flags, since I am pretty familiar with the one here (Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, TX). Some of the rides were the same or similar, but there were many other different and new ones. The park has a really neat setting, being located in an old rock quarry. So there are cliffs all around and their Superman roller coaster is built into and along the cliff side - super scary looking! The weather was not cooperating with us and it was raining pretty hard off and on all day. The first thing we did when we got there was buy rain ponchos and that was the best decision of the day! Finally it was pouring so hard for so long that we decided to leave. That night we decided to try the Riverwalk again. Luckily the rain ended and the weather was actually perfect - cool and no rain. Kris went with us downtown and we did the boat tour of the Riverwalk. Daniel enjoyed being on the boat and was really good for the entire tour. Then we ate dinner along the Riverwalk.

It was a really fun trip and I'm glad we got to share it with Aunt Jennifer! Hope you enjoy the slideshow of our best photos.
