Baby Shower
Today I hosted a baby shower for one of the girls in our squadron spouses group. Her adorable baby Natalie was born early, so she was the guest of honor at the party! I was pretty happy with the cake I made, but I did learn a valuable lesson in preparing it. Always, ALWAYS double or triple check your bake for doneness before you take it out of the oven and let it cool!!! For more pictures of the shower, click here.

All Over the Place!
I knew that as soon as he figured out how to crawl, he would be doing it all over the place! He is already getting into EVERYTHING! I guess I'd better finish baby-proofing the house! :)
Today he made his way over to the balcony doors in our living room. They are behind the couch and he was really excited to make a new discovery. He loves to look out the windows and play in the curtains. He also found his way to the back door (same type of window) to look out at the dog! Here are a few cute pictures. If you want to see the video, click here.

Daniel Waves!
We had another new thing happen today. I have been working on getting Daniel to wave hi or bye-bye. Every time we see someone or leave somewhere, I say "Hi" or "Bye-Bye" and wave. But he never waves! Sometimes he would wave at the dog while we were at home, but I wasn't sure if he was really waving or just making the "milk" sign (baby sign language). But today, he waved FOR SURE! We were on the webcam with Allan. It is neat because lately he really knows that there is someone on the screen and when it is Allan, he really knows who it is. He gets really excited and happy to see his dad on TV. So today, Allan and I were waving to each other to show Daniel and all of a sudden, he started waving towards the screen! It was so awesome! I was also glad that Allan was "there" (sort of) and got to see if for the first time, especially since he missed the crawling.

First Kiss?
I think I might have gotten my first kiss from Daniel today. I know that when babies first start trying to give kisses, you often get a big wet mouth somewhere on the face. Well that is what I got! I was holding him and giving him kisses and tickles. He leaned forward and I got a big, wet, slobbery open-mouth face plant on my cheek. I'm pretty sure it was supposed to be a kiss. At least, that is what I'm telling myself! :)

Finally Crawling!
Well - it finally happened today! We knew he would be crawling soon and today he did. It was getting close to bedtime and he was trying to get the dog's rope toy. It was too far away to reach, even on his hands and knees. And all of the sudden, his knees were moving forward and he crawled over to the toy! He took about 4-5 knee "steps" to get there. I'm not even sure he really knew what he did. I wish I had the video camera on, but of course not! Hopefully I can get some video of it in the next few days and I will post it!

Playing on the Sled
We bought Daniel a little saucer sled a little while back and have been waiting for it to snow a bunch again so we could try it out. Allan attached a string to it so we could pull Daniel around on it in the snow. It didn't work out too well, since Daniel fell over backwards whenever we pulled him. So we tried laying him down in the sled, but he didn't seem to be getting enjoyment out of it! Finally we tried having Allan sit on it behind him and slide down a very short, very un-hilly hill in our backyard. That was a pretty miserable failure, considering the weight of the slide occupants and the lameness of the "hill". Oh well - I got some cute pictures! Sitting Up On His Own!
When I went in to get Daniel out of his crib this morning, I got a big surprise! He was sitting up in the crib playing with his hanging toy. I called to Allan to come and see. This was the first time he sat himself up - or at least the first time we knew it! The next day we got to see him do it - push up from his tummy back onto his knees and finally sitting up. We know he is so close to crawling. He gets on his hands and knees, leans forwards and then ... goes back to sitting! I am just hoping that it happens before Allan goes back to Stuttgart!

February Photo Shoot - Sort Of!
I missed getting a photo shoot of Daniel on his 10-month birthday last week, but I finally got around to it today! Here he is in one of his cutest new outfits! He still will not sit for the camera or smile at all - he is like his Dad in that respect (and many others!). I've seen so many pictures of other people's babies that love the camera and always smile - but not my little guy!

Always on the move!

New Bike Seat
Allan ordered a bike seat for Daniel so we can go riding this summer. He put it on the bike this week and we tested out the seat. Of course, it is still COLD here so we just sat Daniel in it in the house. We can't wait for the weather to get nicer so we can try it out for real!

Daniel's Funky Hair
Today when we got home from running errands and I took Daniel's hat off, I got a funny and cute surprise. His hair was even funnier than normal, sticking up and out and all around all over the place! I got a few good pics of it!
