Daniel Trying to Crawl

This week we got Daniel's new car seat in the mail (thanks Mimi and GrandDad Rich!). I decided to turn the box into a little playhouse for Daniel. So far, I just cut a little window in one side. I cut it on three sides only so we can play peek-a-boo through it. He likes to sit in the house and stick his arm and toys out the window.

Ski Trip
This week we took a little trip to Bavaria in southern Germany. Our first stop was Linderhof Castle, built by "Mad" King Ludwig II. King Ludwig built several luxurious and fantasy castles/palaces (including Neuschwanstein - the Cinderella castle), but this was the only one finished. He utilized this small, intimate palace for eight years as his retreat from the formal palace in Munich. The palace was "small", but very ornate. The gardens looked really neat, but were closed for the summer.

After touring the palace, we arrived at the Edelweiss Resort in Garmisch, Germany. The resort is run by the US military as an R&R location for military members and their families. It was really nice to be somewhere that everyone spoke English automatically and the waitresses brought out free water with no bubbles at the restaurants! They had these cute Daniel-sized rocking chairs in the lobby, so of course I had to get a picture of Daniel in one of those!

On the second day, Allan and I went skiing. It was only my second time ever! There was a lot of fresh new snow, which (according to those people who knew what they were doing) made it "harder" to ski. But it was great for me, because it made a nice soft cushion for landing on when I fell!

On Wednesday, we went to the town of Oberammergau near Garmisch. This town is famous for it's wood carving shops and frescoed buildings. We also saw this tiny camel (which we thought was odd for Germany) and took a picture of Daniel with it. I am now thinking that the camel was probably part of a Nativity scene, which the town is famous for carving.

On the way back to Garmisch, we stopped by the Ettal Monastery and took a quick peek inside the church. It was beautiful inside!

Finally on Thursday morning the sun came out! Of course, that was the day we were leaving, but I snapped a few picture of the beautiful mountain scenery before we drove out of town.

Daniel Throws Stuff
Recently Daniel has been throwing his toys and things a lot. He likes to throw it a little way and then try to get it. One day, he decided it would be fun to throw his potatoes. I thought he got a pretty good distance on one piece, so I took a picture of it. I know, I am crazy, but he is only little once! You can just see the piece of potato near the cardboard box on the table. Good arm!

Scooting - but not crawling yet!
Daniel still isn't crawling, but he does get around a little. He scoots and rolls all around to get to his toys or whatever he wants to grab (the cat!). In the picture below, he scooted himself right off the carpet on the the wood floor.

He also likes to stand up when we help him up. He can't pull up yet, but enjoys standing when we hold his hands or let him hold onto something.

He got another tooth recently - top front right. But he won't let me get pictures of it. Every time I get out the camera, he clamps his mouth shut tight!

Nine Months Old
Daniel is nine months old today. We had a little photo shoot for his regular monthly "birthday" pictures. The bottom picture has Daniel with his new toy "Sharky." Allan picked our Sharky a IKEA the other day and Daniel just loves it. I sing the Jaws theme and Daniel just laughs and laughs! It is hard to believe in just a few short months he will be 1 year old!

Couple of New Foods
Daniel had a few new foods this weekend while Allan was home visiting. Saturday morning, Allan made us pancakes and he made special "Daniel-sized" pancakes for Daniel. He sure loved them and tried to smash as much in his mouth as possible.
For dinner that evening, we had mashed potatos (among other things) and Daniel got his own bowlful. At first we gave him a spoon, but he is not quite skilled enough with that yet. So he went to eating with his fingers and finally just picked up the bowl to his face. He did have the bowl covering his entire face, but I didn't get the camera in time to get a picture of that. So I only got this half-covered face picture, with him chewing on the bowl.

He Has Grown SOOO Much!
The last few days I have been going through Daniel's clothes to sort out the ones he has outgrown. It always makes me a little sad how quickly he is growing up! The first time I put away outgrown clothes I was really sad, but each time I get a little better. I remembered that the first time I took a picture of him with an outgrown sleeper laid out on top of him to see how much he had grown, so I did it again today with the same outfit. Here are both pictures. I thought I might have one with him in the outfit, but I couldn't find one.

Happy New Year!
Just a little note to wish everyone a Happy New Year!! Here's a cute shot of how happy Daniel was this morning! If we all did this while eating breakfast, we'd probably lose some of that Christmas weight, or at least not eat as much...

Happy New Year's!
We had to eat black-eyed peas today so we won't go hungry all year (according to my mother), so I smushed some up for Daniel. He really liked them! For lunch I fed him some, but at dinner I let him help himself...

Happy New Year's!
