London

Next we travelled to London, England for a few days. On the first day, we went to Westminster and saw Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and #10 Downing Street (sort of). We toured Westminster Abbey, where England's kings and queens are corronated and many of England's kings and queens are buried. We also rode the London Eye Ferris Wheel, which was really neat with great views. Afterwards we went to Trafalgar Square and had a nice dinner.

The next day we took a double-decker bus tour and then went to see the Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace. Afterwards, we enjoyed a great lunch, some delicious chocolate (yum!), visited Hamleys Toy Store and took a Thames River boat cruise, ending at the Tower of London. That night, Mary Ann & Dan took in a play while we stayed with Daniel (we ate at TGIFridays - which was awesome!).

On our last day we went to Shakepeare's Globe, which is a reproduction of the original Globe theater. It was really interesting and one of the neatest things on the trip. Then we walked across the Millenium Bridge towards St. Paul's Cathedral. Before visiting the cathedral, we had lunch at Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese pub, the oldest pub in London, built in 1667 - the year after the previous building burnt down in the Great Fire of 1666. This pub was frequented by Charles Dickens. After lunch we toured St. Paul's Cathedral, where Allan & I climbed the dome. On the first level of the dome is the Whispering Gallery. On this level, a whisper can be heard around the other side of the dome. We tried it and it did work! Then we went up two more levels to the top - over 500 steps in all! On the top dome, there was a tiny window in the center where you could look down at the floor of the cathedral. Cool, but a little creepy! Finally we went to The Tower of London, where we took the Beefeater's tour, saw the Crown Jewels and toured the medieval rooms and the White Tower.
