Today Daniel and I went with our friend Kacie to Aachen, Germany. We visited the Cathedral (Dom) and the Rathaus (City Hall) and just browsed around the town. The Cathedral and Rathaus are built on the old site of Charlemagne's palace (from around 800 AD). The original octagonal center part of the Cathedral is from Charlamagne's palace and was the palace church. The Cathedral is the oldest Cathedral in northern Europe and was used for the coronations of the Holy Roman Emperors for years. Charlemagne is buried in the Cathedral as well. It was really a neat Cathedral to see, because it was so much different than the others I've been in. The ceilings were covered with intricate mosaic tilework that was just beautiful.
